CELEBRATING FIVE YEARS OF PENDENNIS VILANOVA
Pendennis Vilanova is celebrating its fifth anniversary – and what a five years it’s been! What started as a marina with a basic repair yard for Med-centric yachts has grown into a multifaceted technical hub for superyachts wintering in the Mediterranean. Coinciding with the fifth anniversary of Pendennis Vilanova are two significant milestones: the completion of stage three of development, which has seen a brand-new paint facility added to the site; and the 300th project welcomed to the yard. Pendennis is proud of the team we’ve built over the last five years, and we have a wide range of nationalities that all play their part in the continual developments and future plans we have in Vilanova. Strategically located on the eastern coastline of Spain between Barcelona and Tarragona, Pendennis Vilanova is centrally located in the western Med and benefits from the full backing of its parent company Pendennis Falmouth. Its location makes it an ideal pitstop for quick work between the two seasons and being less than 200 nautical miles from the Balearics, completed projects can be back out on the charter circuit in less than a day’s sailing.
The local city of Vilanova i la Geltrú has won the hearts of many, because of its world-class gastronomy, lively calendar of events and general tranquil atmosphere. “We have a fantastic local culture that we frequently share with our clients and guests,” says Miquel Lliteras, General Manager of Pendennis Vilanova. “Vilanova i la Geltrú is surrounded by vineyards and we often invite the local growers for wine-tasting events with music and barbecues. It’s a big hit for crew and captains, and many have even been inspired to take up residency in the area.” But, of course, Pendennis Vilanova isn’t only about drinking wine and festivities! The shipyard offers strong technical know-how and a bespoke, tailored approach whereby clients can either opt for a full Pendennis managed service, a hybrid approach or rent the space to complete work using their own contractors. The flexible approach is one reason why referral and return rates are so high.
“We’ve invested a lot into Pendennis Vilanova and just this year we added a new paint facility to complement our joinery, engineering and electrical workshops,” says Kirk Oldfield, Project Manager at Pendennis Vilanova. “We offer flexible storage solutions and workshop rental when available, and we have multiple companies based within our facilities to better our offering to our clients. Health and safety plays a major role here and we offer 24-hour security.”
Pendennis Vilanova has a 620-tonne and a 200-tonne travel hoist on-site and is very flexible on short-notice requests. It can accommodate a variety of work on a wide range of vessels. If there’s a term to describe Pendennis Vilanova, it's dynamic. “We’re transparent and open with our communications, delivering greater oversight and clear goals to our clients,” Oldfield continues. “It works for us and we’re very pleased to welcome the same yachts season after season.”
